DOJ to send federal monitors to Jefferson, Fayette counties to monitor midterm voting

The notice comes as part of the Trump administration's plan to dispatch 1,000 election monitors in “the largest monitoring effort in the [DOJ’s] history." Federal election monitors will be sent to Jefferson and Fayette counties in Kentucky on Nov. 3 to monitor midterm voting. The Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division has informed Secretary of State Michael Adams and Karen Sellers, executive director of the State Board of Elections, that federal election monitors would be in both counties. Both counties include Kentucky's largest cities, Louisville and Lexington, with the highest number of registered Democratic voters in all 120 counties. The DOJ has previously sent monitors to 86 jurisdictions in 27 states, including Jefferson and Kenton counties in 2020. However, the Trump administration plans to send out hundreds more monitors than the previous year.
