Continuing coverage of Pat Kelsey's tenure beginning at the University of Louisville University of Louisville has introduced Pat Kelsey as its 24th head coach in the history of the men's basketball program. Speaking before a crowd of fans, former players, family and media, Kelsey addressed the crowd and stated that the position is an "ultimate job" for the team. He also promised to bring back the best fan base in America and promised a new era of Louisville basketball. University of Louisville President Kim Schatzel and Athletic Director Josh Heird introduced Pat Kelsey as the 24th head coach in the history of the men's basketball program on Thursday afternoon. Speaking in front of a large crowd of fans, former players, family and media, the new coach energized the room for nearly an hour.
Addressing a Louisville fan base that has missed truly competitive basketball for far too long, Kelsey welcomed the pressure that comes with what he described as an "ultimate job."
"You make us great," Kelsey said. "You're one of our major strengths and we need you to bring it. Be the best fan base in America. I get you're very knowledgeable, very opinionated and that's what I signed up for. Bring it. But I'm telling you, we need you on the ship. So let's go."
If Kelsey's introductory press conference is a reflection of what is to come for the Cardinals, then buckle up.
Cardinal Authority was among the few media there when Kelsey arrived via a private jet at Clark Regional Airport and continued to track the Cincinnati native as he toured Denny Crum Hall, the Kueber Center and his first-ever UofL press conference.
