LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Officials at Brookland Cemetery are offering a $1,000 reward for help identifying those responsible for an act of vandalism at the cemetery on June 5.

According to a release from the cemetery, at some point overnight on June 5, “vandals purposefully chose to desecrate the grounds” of the cemetery.

“The Brooks Family and Cemetery Staff are horrified that individuals from our community knowingly entered the cemetery with the intent to cause damage,” the release said. “The harm caused by these ignorant actions is not just physical, it is emotional distress to our families who have every right to expect their neighbors and the community to respect a place meant to honor lost loved ones and their legacies.”

The release went on to ask that anyone with knowledge about what happened to contact the Pioneer Village Police Department.
