Candidates urge voters to cast ballots amid DOJ election monitors
Kentucky officials say DOJ monitors must stay outside polling places in Jefferson and Fayette counties as Election Day approaches. Kentucky election officials have stated that Department of Justice (DOF) monitors will not be allowed inside polling locations in Jefferson and Fayette counties on Election Day due to state election laws limiting who can be at a polling place. Republican Secretary of State Michael Adams stated that federal monitors cannot be within 100 feet of a voting site. The DOJ has stated that state or local approval is not required for its monitoring. The two candidates running for Louisville mayor and Rep. Morgan McGarvey, D-Louisville, have encouraged voters to cast their ballots. The Justice Department is deploying 1,000 monitors to election sites across the country.
