Plan to protect Lexington resident from solar energy costs
Under the agreement, the project developer will fund program for low-income households to ease energy costs. The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council has approved a plan to reduce high energy costs associated with the Haley Pike Landfill Solar Project. The council partnered with the project's developer, Social Impact Solar, to create the agreement, which will fund community programs to reduce expenses for low-income households. The agreement requires Social Impact to report occupational license fees associated with this project to allow the council to monitor income from the project. The Haley Pike Project is set to be the largest landfill to solar project in the U.S. Unlike other local proposals, the development will take place on a brownfield area instead of farmland.
