Lacrosse looks for third straight win in matchup with Lindenwood

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Bellarmine lacrosse team returns home from a two-game road trip to take on Lindenwood this Saturday at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium. Opening faceoff is set for 12 p.m. ET. The Knights dominated both Mercer and Queens, winning 17-9 and 12-5 respectively, moving them over.500 in Atlantic Sun play and currently sit in a three-way tie for third. Meanwhile, Lindsaywood (0-6, 0-3 ASUN) is still searching for their first win of the season. Sophomore attackman and senior goalie, Alie and Higginbotham, have been named ASUN Player of the Week for their performances. The first time these teams played each other last season, Bellarmine won 18-7.

Bellarmine's performance moved them over .500 in Atlantic Sun play and they are currently in a three-way tie for third entering play Saturday. Lindenwood (0-6, 0-3 ASUN) is still looking for their first win of the season.A pair of Knights, sophomore attackmanand senior goalie, earned weekly honors from the ASUN for their performances. Alie was named ASUN Player of the Week after he tied his career high with five goals against Mercer and added three more against Queens. He currently leads the ASUN and is seventh in the nation with 29 goals. Higginbotham was named ASUN Defensive Player of the Week after saving 66.7 percent of the shots on goal in the two wins, averaging just 7.0 goals allowed per game.Another pair of Knights are approaching career milestones as they return to Frazier Stadium. Attackmanis two goals away from becoming the program's first 100-goal scorer and eight assists away from becoming the program's first 100-assist distributor. In total, he is 10 points away from establishing Bellarmine's 200-point club.Midfielderis three goals away from 100 in his career while he rides a 33-game goal-scoring streak into Saturday. O'Rourk did not appear against Queens as Playsted overtook him on BU's all-time goals list just one game after O'Rourk overtook Playsted.The offense for visiting Lindenwood features a pair of attackmen who generate most of their scoring chances."We'll need to account for Flint Theilen and Adrian Thompson who are leading the way for Lions offensively," Whitley said.Theilen leads the Lions with 10 goals, though he has scored on just 23.3 percent of his shots. Thompson leads the team with six assists and his 10 points are two behind Theilen for the team lead.The Lions boast one of the top defenders in the conference in Brian Kallberg, who is third in the nation averaging 2.67 caused turnovers per game. He also averages 3.83 groundballs per game."Lindenwood has a 2024 Preseason All-ASUN defenseman who will challenge us in Brian Kallberg and Coach Lange does nice job getting his team organized defensively," said Whitley. "We will have to stick to the process on offense in order to score goals. We have been able to generate shots of late and, if that continues, we will give ourselves a chance to score."In the first meeting between these programs last season in St. Charles, Mo., Bellarmine used a 6-0 second quarter to boost them to an 18-7 win.was in goal for the Knights and earned his first career win.
