LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - A Nelson County Sheriff’s Deputy tried to stop a stolen vehicle yesterday afternoon, but after a dramatic scene, the suspects got away from police.

The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office said they were made aware of a stolen vehicle in their area out of Indiana because of a flock camera.

A deputy tracked the car down and followed it here to this driveway and from there began a pursuit that you only see in the movies.

Andrew Gibson was sitting in his living room watching TV with his two kids during Spring Break at around 3 p.m. Wednesday when he noticed action in his driveway.

”I heard like a real faint, I think it was a step out of the vehicle now,” Gibson said.

When he turned and looked out his window, Gibson says he saw a deputy with his gun drawn, a white pick-up truck that he had never seen before with two men inside.

Then his instincts kicked in.

”Got the kids up and yelled at them and threw them in a closet because I didn’t know if they were going to start shooting or what,” Gibson said. “And then the truck started back up and took off and went right through my yard.”

Gibson said the truck went right through his fence on Cardinal Hill, zig-zagged between trees, through his other fence and then drove through two of his neighbors’ properties.

About 300 yards from where that initial stop started, you can see where the car chase came to a stop at another neighbor’s property. You could see the tow truck tracks where they pulled up the pick-up truck but if you walk a few more yards you’ll be able to see more tracks going down a hill where the truck finally came to a stop and almost went over a cliff.

From there, the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office said the two got out the car, jumped off the cliff and took off running.

Deputies pursued but weren’t able to find them in the woods.

They later posted a call to action on Facebook to be on the lookout and received a tip that they were seen on Hudson Drive, a few miles away from the initial traffic stop.

”So later on that night they were caught on camera and myself and my guys went out there and attempted to locate them,” Nelson County Sheriff Ramon Pineiroa said. “Neighbors were out with their dogs and possibly handguns.”

Police are still actively searching for the two, but it is giving Gibson a bag of mixed emotions.

”I mean I’m glad they’re out there looking, but it’s a little uneasiness,” he said. “You know I slept on the couch last night just in case someone tried to come through the door.”

A mindset shared by most in Nelson County, including Sheriff Pineiroa, who said they will always police those who try to create problems in his county.

”As long as I’m the sheriff we’re not going to put up with it,” Sheriff Peneiroa said. “You know you’re an outsider coming in here creating havoc on our folks and we’re not going to put up with it.”

Sheriff Pineroa said they have a stolen truck, stolen guns and drugs in custody and are looking for the suspects.

The only descriptions they have for them is that one man is black one man is white, and they’re both wearing gray and traveling on foot.

He says they could be armed and dangerous so don’t approach them, just call Nelson County Sheriff’s Office.
