The No. 19 NC State baseball team opens a seven-game road trip Friday night at Louisville. This weekend’s series against the Cardinals will be played Friday through Sunday, with first pitch times at 6 p.m., 1 p.m., and 1 p.m., respectively.

All three games at Jim Patterson Stadium will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra. A free audio stream will be available on the Varsity Network app for all three contests. Saturday’s game will also be available on WKNC 88.1.

NC State holds a 7-18 record against Louisville in the all-time series. More notes from the series against the Cardinals are listed below:

• NC State picked up its second straight win over Louisville last season at Doak Field in Dail Park, winning the first two games of a three-game set from March 31-April 2. The Wolfpack scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth to win Friday night’s contest 6-5. a two-RBI single served as the winner. The combined gem of and helped the Pack blank Louisville 10-0 on Saturday to secure the series win.

• In its most recent trip to Louisville, the Wolfpack dropped two of three games from April 22-24, 2022. After falling in the series opener, NC State responded with a 15-10 win in game two before losing the finale by 11 -7.

• NC State’s last series win at Louisville came April 6-8, 2018. After falling in the series opener, the Wolfpack responded with a 9-6 win in game two before picking up an ACC road series win after Sunday’s 10-3 win over the No. 11 Cardinals.

Louisville (17-11, 3-6 ACC) has gone 1-2 in each of its first three ACC series, winning the ACC opener over Virginia Tech on March 15. After opening the season with a four-game losing streak, the Cardinals have won 10 straight. Louisville ranks second in the ACC in doubles (65) and doubles per game (2.32), while leading the conference with 15 triples and 0.54 triples per game. Ten Louisville players with 50 or more at-bats are hitting over .300 entering this weekend’s series. Sophomore Gavin Killen leads Louisville with 13 doubles, three triples, 21 extra-base hits and 69 total bases. As a staff, Louisville has posted a 5.21 ERA with a 262-106 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

NC State has had a flair for the dramatic so far this season, recording all five of its road wins in the month of March. Five of NC State’s 16 home wins have come via shutouts. Below is a list of NC State’s five wins:

• March 1 (W, 6-5 vs. Towson): delivered an RBI single to score in the bottom of the ninth.

• March 8 (W, 5-4 vs. Boston College): dropped a two-out single in the 11th inning for the Wolfpack’s first ACC win of the year. again, scores the game-winning run.

• March 23 (W, 9-8 vs. No. 9 Duke): This is the Serrano III A two-out, two-run homer capped a dramatic ninth-inning comeback as NC State erased a five-run deficit to win the series over the Blue Devils.

• March 29 (W, 7-6 vs. Notre Dame): career night ended with a single in the bottom of the ninth, snapping the winning streak for NC State.

• March 30 (W, 7-6 vs. Notre Dame): crushed NC State’s second walk-off homer in as many weeks with two outs and three runs to cap the victory over the Fighting Irish.

NC State is 7-1 this season in sweepstakes, which is tied for first with North Carolina for the most sweeps in the ACC in 2024. NC State also ranks first in the league with a 5-1 record in one-off ACC races. NC State’s .875 hitting percentage in one-run games and .833 winning percentage in one-run ACC contests rank first among all 14 ACC schools entering the week.

Graduate transfer has already provided the Wolfpack with some clutch moments in his first season in an NC State uniform. Pennington’s leadoff single helped the Wolfpack open the ACC with a 5-4 victory in 11 innings over Boston College on March 8. Eleven days later, Pennington again had the go-ahead run with an RBI double in the bottom of the eighth as the Pack posted a 9-8 comeback win over Coastal Carolina. And once again on Saturday, Pennington managed his second hit of the season, launching a two-out, three-run homer to turn a 6-4 deficit into a 7-6 win for NC State.

For the first time since April 2-9 last season, NC State has dropped four straight games following the series at Georgia Tech. When the Pack last lost four straight in 2023, NC State responded with five straight, highlighted by a home blowout over Florida State. The Wolfpack also recorded midweek wins over Davidson and UNCW during that five-game winning streak. NC State snapped that four-game losing streak in a big way, winning six of its last eight games with a 3-2 record over ranked opponents during that span. The Wolfpack have also been clutch during their current hot streak, posting a 5-0 record in one-game sweeps following the Georgia Tech streak.

Graduated transfer at third base was on a tear in his first season at NC State, leading the pack with 41 RBI. Just 26 games into the season, he is one of only five Pack9 players with three games with five RBI or more since 2000.
